Youm-e-Ashura Observed Across Pakistan to Honor Martyrs of Karbala Amid Strict Security
ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is being observed today across Pakistan with deep religious solemnity and reverence to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his loyal companions at Karbala. Mourning processions and Majalis are being held in all major urban centers, including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Traditional Processions Underway as Mourners Pay Rich Tributes
The main mourning processions, featuring Ta’zia and Zuljanah, are moving along their traditionally designated routes. Thousands of grief-stricken mourners clad in black are participating in chest-beating, self-flagellation, and reciting elegies (Nochas) to pay homage to the martyrs. On this historic day, modern-day faithful are reiterating their collective resolve to stand firm against tyranny, injustice, and falsehood, drawing inspiration from the timeless stand of Imam Hussain (RA).
Comprehensive Security Measures and Civic Facilitation
To ensure the peaceful conduct of the holy day, provincial administrations and law enforcement agencies have deployed extensive measures:
-
Strict Security Blanket: Security has been placed on high alert nationwide. Personnel from the police, rangers, and paramilitary forces are guarding the routes, backed by CCTV surveillance and the strategic suspension of mobile phone services in sensitive areas.
-
Water and Food Stalls (Sabeels): Humanitarian frameworks and local community groups have set up thousands of free food distribution points (Langar) and water stalls (Sabeels) along the procession routes to facilitate the millions of participants.
