PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Landmark Visit Concludes with Joint Communiqué on CPEC 2.0 and Defense Ties

Marking 75 years of diplomatic ties, Pakistan and China have launched a new era in their iron-clad friendship. According to a high-profile joint communiqué issued at the conclusion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to China, both nations have solidified a comprehensive 5-year action plan aimed at elevating defense, security, economic, and aerospace cooperation to unprecedented heights.

In a historic breakthrough for space exploration, Beijing has officially welcomed the initiative to train two Pakistani astronauts, with plans to send one to the Chinese Space Station.

CPEC 2.0, Gwadar Development, and AI Expansion

Following high-level delibrations between Chinese President Xi Jinping and PM Shehbaz Sharif, both sides reached a consensus to accelerate high-quality development projects under the framework of CPEC 2.0.

The strategic layout of the economic partnership includes:

  • Infrastructure & Trade Corridors: Prioritizing the development of Gwadar Port and optimizing the year-round operational efficiency of the Khunjerab Pass.

  • Tech & Industrial Alignment: Expanding bilateral cooperation across Special Economic Zones (SEZs), modernized agriculture, the digital economy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

  • Trade Facilitation: China will ease market access for Pakistani agricultural exports and provide 3,000 professional training opportunities for Pakistani human resources.

H3: Mutual Defense of Sovereignty and Regional Security

On the geopolitical front, the two neighbors reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to each other’s core national interests. Pakistan openly reiterated its support for Beijing’s stance on Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. Concurrently, China reaffirmed its steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, cementing the visit as a geo-economic game-changer for the region.
