Petrol Prices Hiked Across Pakistan; Jamaat-e-Islami Threatens Long March
The federal government has raised the price of petrol by Rs 5.58 per litre and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs 4.18 per litre, sparking immediate political pushback and threats of street protests.
The new prices, effective September 9, 2026, take petrol to Rs 364.35 per litre and HSD to Rs 385.95 per litre. The move comes amid growing public frustration over relentless inflation and high living costs.
Reacting strongly to the notification, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has threatened to launch a nationwide long march if the petroleum levy and other heavy taxes are not abolished immediately.
He claimed that removing the levy and associated taxes could reduce petrol prices by up to Rs 106 per litre, demanding urgent relief for the masses.
