US Intelligence Report Disputes Trump’s Claims of Destroying Iran’s Nuclear Program

A new US intelligence assessment has revealed that the recent American airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities failed to cripple the country’s uranium enrichment capabilities — directly contradicting claims made by President Donald Trump. The report, prepared by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), was shared with CNN and paints a very different picture of the outcome of the strikes.

According to sources familiar with the DIA findings, Iran’s key nuclear sites — including the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, Natanz Enrichment Complex, and Isfahan nuclear facility — suffered only limited damage. While some above-ground infrastructure was hit, the underground centrifuge halls and stockpiles of enriched uranium remain largely unaffected.

President Trump had earlier declared that the strikes had “completely obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program. US Defense Secretary also echoed similar sentiments, claiming Iran’s nuclear ambitions had been dismantled. However, the intelligence suggests otherwise, stating that the operation may have delayed Iran’s nuclear progress by only a few months.

The White House dismissed the leaked intelligence assessment, labeling it a “deliberate attempt to discredit a successful military mission.” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “When you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets, the result is total obliteration.” But analysts argue that such rhetoric is misleading and not supported by facts on the ground.

Iran, meanwhile, has responded with force. In retaliation to the US strikes, Iranian forces launched missile attacks on the US-run Al-Udeid air base in Qatar. The escalation forced the US to seek a ceasefire, which was agreed upon despite failing to meet key military objectives.

Nuclear expert Jeffrey Lewis from the Middlebury Institute confirmed that satellite imagery supports the DIA’s findings, indicating that core Iranian nuclear facilities — including those at Natanz, Isfahan, and Parchin — are still operational. These sites could serve as the basis for rapid reconstitution of the country’s nuclear program.

Iranian officials remain defiant. Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, stated that Iran’s nuclear industry is “deeply rooted” in national infrastructure and will continue to grow. “They cannot uproot it,” he asserted.
