According to international media reports, Machado said the award symbolizes the courage of Venezuelans who have fought against tyranny and oppression for years.
“I dedicate this prize to my people and to all our friends who supported Venezuela’s dream of freedom — including President Trump,” she said in her acceptance statement.
Machado added that Venezuelans have endured hunger, imprisonment, threats, and exile, yet they continue to fight for democracy. “We are standing at the gates of victory,” she declared emotionally.
Trump, during his presidency, openly supported democratic movements in Venezuela, earning praise from opposition figures like Machado, who called him a “friend of freedom.”
The Nobel Committee confirmed that it received 338 nominations for this year’s Peace Prize, including Trump’s, but the final decision went in favor of Maria Corina Machado.
