KP Government, Opposition Reach Deal for Uncontested Senate Elections; Internal Rift Surfaces in PTI
PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and opposition have reached a consensus to hold the upcoming Senate elections uncontested. As per the agreement, the ruling party will secure six seats while the opposition will get five.

The final round of negotiations took place at the Chief Minister House, where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s political committee approved the deal. PTI has also finalized and announced its candidates for the Senate elections from KP.
According to the official statement, PTI has nominated Faisal Javed, Murad Saeed, Mirza Khan Afridi, and Pir Noorul Haq Qadri for general seats. Rubina Naz has been nominated for the women’s seat, while Azam Khan Swati will contest for the technocrat seat. Mishal Yousafzai will be the candidate for the seat vacated by Dr. Sania Nishtar.

Despite the agreement, internal divisions within PTI have deepened. Dissident party members have refused to withdraw their nomination papers, declaring they will contest the elections independently.
The second round of negotiations between PTI leaders and the disgruntled candidates at the CM House ended without resolution. Sources confirmed that Irfan Saleem, among others, is adamant about remaining in the race, defying party instructions.

In Peshawar, PTI’s local office-bearers expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that dedicated workers were sidelined in the candidate selection process. They warned of staging protests and even besieging the KP Assembly and CM House if their demands are not met.
