Five-storey residential building collapses in Karachi’s Lyari

Five-storey residential building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari area after which the several people got trapped under the rubble, the rescue officials said on Friday.

The rescue teams are actively engaged in locating and assisting those affected.

The rescue officials said that five injured individuals have been pulled out from the debris and shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. However, several others are feared to be still trapped as search and rescue operations continue.

Following the incident, the teams from rescue services, police and Rangers quickly reached the site and initiated relief efforts. Heavy machinery has been summoned to assist in removing the debris, while local residents are also helping in the rescue process.

The eyewitnesses stated that the building housed several families and was in a dilapidated condition prior to its collapse. The cracks had reportedly developed in the structure, raising concerns among residents, but no timely action was taken.

The local administration has sealed off the area to facilitate smooth rescue operations and has urged the public to cooperate and avoid creating obstructions at the site.
