Europe Swelters Under Relentless Heatwave, Multiple Fatalities Reported

A severe heatwave continues to grip Europe, with countries including Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, and Germany experiencing record-breaking temperatures and tragic consequences.

At least eight people have lost their lives so far due to heat-related causes. In Spain, wildfires sparked by extreme heat have devastated forests, claiming the lives of two farmers. Italy has reported three fatalities as a result of the heatwave, while in France, a 10-year-old girl tragically died due to the intense heat.

Temperatures have soared close to 40°C in Spain, France, and Italy, with Germany also recording highs of 38°C. Both France and Italy have issued red alerts as emergency services scramble to respond. In France alone, over 300 people suffering from heat-related illnesses were treated by emergency medical teams.

According to meteorological agencies, Spain and the United Kingdom have just experienced their hottest June on record. The searing temperatures have led to devastating wildfires in Spain and Greece, prompting mass evacuations.

In Spain, wildfires have scorched over 16,000 acres of land. In Greece, more than 1,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as flames encroach on populated areas. Strong winds have worsened the crisis, pushing fires toward hotels and residential buildings.

Authorities have deployed 230 firefighters, along with 46 fire engines and helicopters, to battle the blazes.
