Supreme Court Takes Up Imran Khan’s Private Hospital Transfer Case
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is reviewing a contempt petition filed by Imran Khan’s sister after the government transferred the jailed PTI founder to PIMS instead of the court-mandated Shifa International Hospital.
The Supreme Court has taken up a high-profile case regarding the medical transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Previously, on August 18, the apex court ordered Khan’s transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
However, the federal government instead relocated the PTI founder to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), citing critical security constraints. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar defended the government’s actions, noting that doctors from Shifa International were also present at PIMS to ensure the quality of medical care.
In response to the government’s actions, Imran Khan’s sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, filed a contempt of court petition, arguing that her brother’s health required strict compliance with the original directive. The Supreme Court has fixed the contempt hearing for September 16, rejecting a request for an earlier immediate hearing, while also returning the government’s review petition with objections.
