Huge Spike in Pakistan Fuel Prices: Petrol and Diesel Up by 55 PKR per Liter
ISLAMABAD – In a significant move impacting the national economy, the Government of Pakistan has announced a massive increase in petroleum product prices. Effective midnight, the prices of both petrol and diesel have been raised by 55 PKR per liter, marking one of the sharpest hikes in recent history.
Global Crisis and Impact
Addressing a joint press conference alongside the Finance and Petroleum Ministers, the Deputy Prime Minister attributed the surge to escalating tensions in the Middle East. “Global petroleum prices have skyrocketed by up to 50%,” he stated, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is actively monitoring the situation to mitigate the burden on the masses.

Strategic Oversight and Weekly Reviews
In a shift in policy, the government announced that fuel prices will now be reviewed and adjusted on a weekly basis to align with international market volatility.
A high-level committee, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, has been formed to evaluate daily price fluctuations. “We are in constant communication with foreign ministers and global leadership to navigate these geopolitical challenges,” the Deputy PM noted.
Economic Stability and Reserves
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reassured the public that Pakistan currently maintains a stable position with healthy petroleum reserves. However, he cautioned that a prolonged global conflict could alter the situation.
“The committee has been working for five days, involving representatives from the State Bank and the Petroleum Division. We are assessing the direct impact of energy costs on the economy and trade,” Aurangzeb said.
Provincial Coordination for Relief
To manage the domestic fallout, the federal committee is scheduled to meet with Provincial Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries within the next 48 hours. The objective is to assess the ground reality and formulate a relief strategy for the provinces.
