Hamas-Israel Prisoner Exchange to Take Place Today Under Gaza Peace Deal
A Hamas-Israel prisoner exchange is expected to take place today under the Gaza peace agreement, marking a major step toward easing regional tensions.
According to the Israeli government, all 20 Israeli hostages held in Gaza will be returned by this morning. The Red Cross will take custody of the prisoners and transfer them to an Israeli military base in Gaza for initial medical checkups before they are reunited with their families.
Israeli officials stated that once all hostages are confirmed safe, the process of releasing Palestinian prisoners will begin.
Under the agreement, Israel will release around 2,000 Palestinian detainees, including 250 serving life sentences. However, Marwan Barghouti, a prominent Palestinian leader, is not included in the list of those to be freed.
This Gaza ceasefire deal is being viewed as a significant confidence-building measure between the two sides after months of conflict.
