Prime Suspect in Ameer Balaj’s Murder, Taifi Butt, Killed in Suspected Crossfire with His Own Accomplices
Rahim Yar Khan: According to the Punjab Police Crime Control Department (CCD), Taifi Butt — the prime suspect in the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu — was killed after being hit by his own accomplices’ bullets during an exchange of fire near Rahim Yar Khan.
Police officials said Taifi Butt was being transported by road from Karachi to Lahore when armed men opened fire on the police vehicle near Rahim Yar Khan. During the attack, one police officer was injured and the assailants managed to free the suspect from police custody.
Later, when police attempted to stop two suspicious vehicles, the attackers opened fire again. The exchange of fire lasted around 20 to 25 minutes. During the shootout, Taifi Butt was reportedly hit by bullets fired by his own men. He was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Another police officer was also injured in the incident. A case has been registered against seven to eight unidentified attackers under charges of attempted murder and assault on police officials, on the complaint of the CCD DSP.
Police sources confirmed that Taifi Butt had been extradited from Dubai to Pakistan some time ago.
The long-standing feud between the families of Ameer Balaj and Taifi Butt spans nearly three decades.
On February 18 last year, Ameer Balaj was shot dead during a wedding ceremony in Lahore. Police had nominated several suspects in the case, including Gogi Butt and Taifi Butt.
The feud has claimed several lives over the years. Ameer Balaj’s father and grandfather were also killed in the same rivalry, while Taifi Butt’s brother-in-law, Javed Butt, was gunned down in broad daylight in Lahore.
